Introducing OneStep

OneStep team

Dear friends, collaborators, and industry colleagues, after months of hard work, we’re proud to announce our rebranding as OneStep.

At OneStep, we assist people through physical recovery by using everyday sensors to provide ongoing gait diagnostics with the goal of reducing healthcare costs and improving the quality of life. Starting with the smartphone, and expanding to an array of sensors around us, OneStep offers continuous progress feedback and a direct connection to a therapist.

Our journey began a year ago, when we read in a newspaper about several medical cases that ended tragically due to a lack of medical tools and expertise. We asked ourselves what kind of product or device could help avoid these situations in the future. Quickly, we realized that the device already exists – there was no need to look outward to wearables. What is the one thing that anyone carries all the time, and has sensors more accurate than an average lab? The smartphone. In fact, smartphones have become so strong that they can monitor health continuously, without requiring any change of behavior or buying a dedicated device. Therefore, we have decided to combine our expertise in sensors and AI to develop a platform that turns everyday devices into health diagnostics, starting with the smartphone.

But where to begin? There are so many cases in which we believed smartphone health diagnostics could help. So, we began consulting with experts to consider and learn about various medical cases. Wandering through rehabilitation centers, it was impossible to ignore those who we saw learning how to walk – many of them stroke survivors, who lost their independent mobility. We immediately realized that this was the type of patient we wanted and believed we could help, and began to focus our time and efforts on understanding post-stroke gait rehabilitation, in order to develop a product that would most benefit the patients and healthcare providers.

Through our research on post-stroke rehabilitation, we were able to identify one major problem in the rehab process: the time in between physical therapy sessions. Patients struggle to know whether they are progressing or regressing without constant feedback, and physical therapists are confined to analyze their patients only in 2 hours weekly, at best.

Enter OneStep – our goal is to reduce healthcare costs and improve the quality of life through a software that leverages all the sensors around us to provide always-on diagnostics and constant feedback. OneStep liberates therapy from inside clinic walls to include activity in patients’ natural environments, giving both patients and therapists the tools to improve the therapy outcome.

With continuous, seamless monitoring of individuals’ walking habits and progress, and an application portal accessible for both patient and therapist, rehabilitation can extend beyond the clinic walls. We truly believe the magic of recovery happens between the sessions, which is why our product encourages and tracks continued exercise and progress at home. OneStep’s ability to quantify the recovery process and provide real-time feedback encourages motivation towards continued healing. Our product also allows therapists to better understand and quantify their patient’s progress outside of therapy.

Our product is currently distributed in Israel through two leading medical centers (as a part of a study), and is installed on dozens of patients’ phones across the country. Our physical therapists that we have partnered with are extremely pleased with the product, and are seeing meaningful and satisfying results alongside their patients. We are thrilled to be officially launching as OneStep, and will be expanding across Israel and US markets in the next 18 months.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our mentors, industry peers and colleagues for their support as we developed OneStep’s product and mission. We are looking forward to improving the lives and rehabilitation of stroke survivors, OneStep at a time.
